Exercise is an essential link to living a healthy lifestyle. The staff at PWHO are always striving to come up with new activities to encourage participation and make exercise enjoyable. For over a year, PWHO has offered Zumba classes twice at week and it has undeniably become the most popular form of exercise among the residents. Zumba is a set of choreographed dance moves set to life by music. The classes are extremely upbeat and positive. On August 21st & 22nd, Oconomowoc hosted their 40th Annual Festival of the Arts where individuals from five of the different homes took the opportunity to show off their dance moves at the park over looking Fowler Lake. The area was filled with booths for shopping and volunteer entertainment on three stages. The Zumba instructor, Mike, reserved a spot on one of the stages for our residents to perform and increase awareness of the class. The residents and staff were encouraged to dance and show off everything they have learned during the year. While performing, Mike asked for volunteers to join him on stage and aid in the routines. Everyone appeared proud and confident as they preformed for their audience. It was encouraging to see other members of the community join in and participate as well. One resident stated, “I love Zumba! It’s so fun to Dance!!” We are very proud of each of the individuals who participated in the event and look forward to seeing all of their new routines next year.
