On Saturday May 14th, residents from Prader-Willi Homes of Oconomowoc gathered with friends, family, and community members at Fowler Park in Oconomowoc, WI for the first Annual PWSA-WI Walk-a-Thon. After spending over a month collecting pledges and gearing up for the big day, the residents were eager to arrive at the park. After registering and putting on an “On The Move” tattoo, participants gathered at the starting line in anticipation for the beautiful and scenic, two mile walk around Fowler Lake. Although it was chilly, windy, and overcast, the residents along with some of their family members, came out and walked to support others with Prader-Willi syndrome and to make a difference in the lives of others. With over 300 people walking together, awareness of the syndrome was spread across the Oconomowoc Area. Those who walked or volunteered received an On the Move T-shirt and water bottle. Items that can be used again and again in remembrance of the wonderful time that was had by all who joined in on the fun. After the walk, a healthy lunch was provided by the Oconomowoc Piggly Wiggly and music was provided by our favorite DJ Scott of Wileman Mobile DJ. A special thanks to all of the residents and their families for spreading awareness and raising pledges to support the On The Move Walk-a-thon, which is part of the new national awareness initiative of PWSA-USA and local chapters. With their help, PWSA-WI was able to bring in over $14.000.00, making the First Annual On The Move Walk-a-thon an amazing success and a day to be proud to be a part of. Many people have already expressed great interest and anticipation for next year's event which is sure to be even better than this years.
