On June 4th and 5th, I attended the 31st Annual PWSA-USA National Providers Conference in Inner-Harbor Baltimore Maryland with five other staff members from Prader-Willi Homes of Oconomowoc. I had the opportunity to get familiar and network with other providers from around the country. This was an amazing opportunity to broaden my views and options for therapeutic approaches with the individuals that reside at PWHO as well as other opportunities I can provide for those individuals. The first day of the conference was dedicated to information and ideas regarding physical and mental health aspects, behavior support opportunities, vocational opportunities, as well as supports provided by the National Prader-Willi Association. On this day I was able to listen to the different options that we at PWHO might be able to implement or improve within our own group homes. The second day of the conference was dedicated to networking and problem solving with each other as providers. This was a great opportunity to learn many new and innovative ideas to help support resident behaviors and health concerns as well as internal training for staff. I was also able to share some of my own expertise that I have learned over the years here at PWHO. While the provider’s conference was taking place, scientists from around the globe met in an adjoining room for the 1st Annual Hyperphagia Conference. On the evening of the 4th I had the honor of eating dinner and listening to keynote speaker Dr. George Bray with other providers, scientists, and families. Overall this was a wonderful experience and I hope that others will have the opportunity to experience other National Conferences in the future.
